Obesity Can Lead To Daytime Sleepiness

Often sleepy during the day? Check your weight!

Obesity is not good to heart health and may reduce the productivity of brain tissue at work. Coupled with depression, it can make us feel tired and sleepy during the day. As a result, we felt so drained out to do anything.

Three studies in the field of psychiatry disclose it. In the first study involving 1173 participants found that as many as 8% of participants experienced excessive sleepiness during the day. Symptoms of excessive sleepiness becomes 3 times greater in those with depression and two times greater for those with obesity and sleep apnea.

The second study showed that people who are overweight and with higher BMI experience excessive sleepiness and it’s like a cycle. Because, they who are often sleepy during the day are more likely to gain weight.

While a third studies involving 103 participants who were obese showed that lack of sleep at night is not always the main factor causing daytime sleepiness. Participants, who get enough sleep at night, in fact are also too often yawn and exhausted during the day.
