Are Your Water Bottle Safe

Dangers of plastic water bottle have long taken the attention of health experts. Although not consuming the plastic bottles, but the chemicals from the plastic in the end remains mixed with the water. There are concerns that a chemical in plastics materials can harm the developing brain and reproductive organs in children.
Presumably, the source of the problem is a chemical called bisphenol A or BPA. The stronger the evidence suggests that BPA is an endocrine disruptor, which means it can block the function of hormones. In animal studies, BPA and other endocrine disruptor is related to various undesirable effects such as early puberty in females, prostate enlargement in males, and even cancer.
BPA is found in many sports drinks bottles, thermos cooler, as well as baby bottles. Bottles containing BPA are usually marked with the number ‘7 ‘in the recycling symbol (although not all the numbers ‘7’ means the product contains BPA). When scientists poured boiling water into plastic bottles with a ‘7 ‘, BPA is mixed into the water 55 times faster than when using water at room temperature. Avoid putting bottle for sports and baby bottles into the dishwasher or microwave.
On the other hand, you might be a little relieved to know that there are still many water bottles containers that do not contain BPA as is made from polyethylene terephthalate (PETE or PET), which is marked by the number ‘1 ‘in the recycling sign. But even though PETE does not contain BPA, such materials contain other chemicals, called phthalates, which are also believed to be endocrine disruptor. The same as BPA, a chemical is dissolved into the water when heated. So, do not leave bottles of water in a hot car or out in the sun.
Because BPA and phthalates are much around us, reduce the use of drinks in small packages and buy a big gallon, and make use of aluminum beverage bottles or stainless steel. Do not forget to recycle plastic bottles that are not used as a form of environmental awareness.
