Tea has long been known as one of the best beverages for health, especially if the tea is green tea. It could even be said green tea is the best tea of all kinds of tea available. This fact is further strengthened by recent findings that green tea is not only good for the heart but also for brain health.
Study found that by drinking green tea regularly can help improve memory and visual learning ability as the chemical compounds contained in green tea helps in multiplying the brain cells.
Many scientific findings have proven the usefulness of green tea in helping prevent cardiovascular disease, but new founding have evidence that it could affect the chemical content of cellular mechanisms in the brain.
Chemical compound called EGCG (Epigallocatechin gallate) that can improve cognitive function by affecting the brain’s nerve cells or increase neurogenesis in the hippocampus, part of the brain that are responsible for processing information from short term memory into long term memory.
Specifically, researchers found that EGCG promotes the production of nerve cells pregenitor that can adapt to the different types of cells like stem cells (stem cells).
These findings help to understand the potential of EGCG contained in green tea, especially in fight against degenerative diseases and combat memory loss caused by the disease or condition.
