Is it safe to take multiple vitamins at once?
Many people take vitamin capsules because it’s practical enough to meet the needs of vitamins. In fact, some of us think, the greater the benefits for the body when we consume several types at once? How do these perceptions in terms of health.
Vitamins are organic compounds that are needed but not produced by the body. That’s why we got it from outside the body by choosing healthy foods.
In general, vitamins are classified into water-soluble vitamins, the vitamins B and C and fat-soluble vitamins, namely vitamins A, D, E, and K.
The metabolism and excretion of fat soluble vitamins are slower than water-soluble vitamins. When we take it too much, side effects will occur and even to toxic effects. So to know the needs of vitamins, we can refer to the RDA data or the Recommended Dietary Allowance.
For certain vitamins it’s more beneficial when consumed simultaneously. Vitamin A and C, for example, protecting damage cause by oxidation. In addition, vitamin C supplement can help increase Vitamin E plasma levels, and vice verse.
However, taking vitamin E supplements along with other antioxidants such as vitamin C, beta-carotene and selenium, may interact with simvastatin and niacin. Both drugs are for lowering cholesterol levels. That is, taking vitamins and medications can simultaneously reduce levels of good cholesterol (HDL).
