Forget Easily? Clench Your Hand And Remember Better

A study found that body movements can affect the workings of the brain, including in remembering something. Someone who is easy to forget is advised to fist when receiving information. When most people think that the brain can affect the body physically, the study believes otherwise. Physical movement of the body can affect the brain.

Past research has shown that the movement of the hand, specifically clenching are associated with emotion. Fist on the right hand activates the left brain is associated with joy and amazement. Left fist activates the right brain, which triggers feelings of fear and anxiety.

This time, studies have linked it with a fist in the brain’s ability to remember. To prove the theory, research involves people who are not left-handed to recall 72 random words. Left-handed people were excluded because they naturally have a better memory.

Participants were asked to recall the words as they clenched their fist. With the combinations as follow:

  • Clenching right hand while memorizing
  • Clenching left hand while recalling

Results showed that the group that clenched showed 15 percent better in memorizing.
