Pregnant Women Should Consume Enough Iodine

Researchers said iodine deficiency during pregnancy can seriously affect the mental development of infants.

A recently study found that IQ and reading lesson of elementary school students tended to be lower if their mothers did not consume foods that contain a lot of iodine, such as fish and dairy products.

This scientific conclusion was obtained from the study of 1,000 families.

Of this study revealed that at the age of eight-year-old children with mothers who did not consume enough iodine has a three point’s intelligence number lower than children born to mothers who consume adequate amounts of iodine.

The experts who conducted this study suggest that pregnant women should avoid extra food from seaweed because it will make the mineral content in the body too high.

Severe iodine deficiency is considered as the biggest cause of brain damage, medical cases which could have been prevented in many countries in the world.
