How Insomnia Affects The Brain Works During The Day

Brain scans of people with insomnia showed that brain performance ‘different’ compared to those who sleep soundly at night.

Researchers say people who have trouble sleeping seemed to try harder to focus during the day.

But the trouble sleeping at night also has consequences at daytime as such, for example, reacted too late and too late to remember something.

Study compared 25 people who suffered insomnia with 25 people who did not have sleep problems.

They carried out brain scans while they undergo a series of challenging memory tests.

Researchers explain that the quality of sleep of each group examined, were actually similar, although one group claimed to have insomnia problems. Researchers found subjects that claimed insomnia did not use part of the brain associated with memory tests that they should have and that their minds wander which of course is not relevant to the task. This data helps researchers understand that people with insomnia not only have trouble sleeping at night but their brains do not function efficiently throughout the day.
