Prevent Injuries during Physical Activities

It is hard to stay active during the week, especially as your job and family start to take time away from your schedule. Unfortunately, this usually leads to cases of weekend warriors–people who go out and exercise or play hard on the weekend are more prone to injuries like Achilles tendonitis, ankle sprains, and other problems related to overuse of a seldom-used muscle group.

Preventing Injuries

While there have been conflicting reports on whether or not stretching actually helps to prevent injuries, it is still widely accepted that the right stretching procedures will help to ensure safety for muscles, ligaments, and tendons during exercise. You will just want to make sure that you are using the right techniques. Stretching afterwards can also help you cool down those muscles, ligaments, and tendons. This will prevent tightness and soreness after a strenuous workout.
Staying active throughout the week will also help to prevent injuries. If you can get your family involved in being active, you will have a great time, create memories, and be able to take up more forms of exercise on the weekend than would otherwise be prudent.

Getting Active

Anytime that you are going from a period of less activity to a period of more activity, you will want to remember to take it a little easier than what you may remember doing. There will also come a time in your workouts when you will reach a plateau. At that time, you will want to be patient and not overdo anything. Getting hurt will mean having to start over again in some cases.

Injuries Are No Fun

Whether it is a sprained ankle or Achilles tendonitis, injuries are no fun. No one wants to have to sit out a game or worse, and some injuries may require a trip to the hospital. That is expensive, time-consuming, and detrimental to future activity levels. Instead, it is better if you take your time while ramping up activity levels over the course of weeks. You may also want to get the advice of a doctor to make sure that you aren’t doing too much too soon.
