Harmful Bacteria Could Lurk InThe Nose

Researchers say that a very dangerous Staphylococcus bacterium can live in the nose. The researchers tested 12 healthy people and found that there is a staphylococcus aureus bacterium in their nose, which is a major cause of disease and nearly half of the S. aureus strains are resistant to antibiotics.

It is known that the bacterium S. aureus is located on the skin and in the nose. Although there are ways to eliminate the bacteria, but usually returns within a few weeks or months later.

If S. aureus enter the blood stream through a wound, incision, can cause potentially life-threatening problems, such as pneumonia or infection of the heart valves.

Researchers also found that there is a type of bacteria called Corynebacterium pseudodiphtheriticum that compete with S. aureus in the nose. It is possible that the bacteria C. pseudodiphtheriticum may be useful in fighting S. Aureus infections.
